Rising right from the Tammerkoski rapids and being surrounded by Seelanti (a 1865 built weaving mill),
Puutarhatehdas (a 1891 built spinning mill), Pääkonttori (a 1895 built office building in neogothic style),
Finlaysonin kirkko (a 1897 built chapel in neogothic style) and Finlaysonin Palatsi (a 1899 built palace
in neorenaissance style), the 1852 built dyehouse Värjäämö is an essential key element of both the
historical Finlayson area and the beatyful landscape of Tammerkoski rapids in the city of Tampere, Finland.
Today a Finnish insurance company Varma together with the city of Tampere wants to tear down this
central piece of landscape and history and
replace it with Soviet-style six-storey block - right in the middle of historical surroundings of Finlayson
area and Tammerkoski landscape, both of which have been declared protected areas by Finnish authorities.
